A project to reconstruct, enhance, and recolor the Battle of Sibiu painting based on preserved fragments.
CLIENT: Muzeum Ziemi Tarnowskiej
PLATFORM: PCVR, Meta Quest
ENGINE: Unreal Engine 5
STATE OF THE PAINTING
Only several dozen fragments—comprising less than 20% of the original surface—have survived from the Siedmiogrodzka Panorama painted by Jan Styka, along with a low-resolution black-and-white photograph showing the complete work.
As part of the project, we enhanced the quality of the preserved photograph and recolored it based on available scans of the original fragments. The visualization was then transferred into virtual reality.
THE USE OF Artificial intelligence
To reconstruct the missing parts and restore the original color palette, we used AI algorithms trained on the preserved fragments to recreate the missing content.

Vvirtual reality
The entire painting, now fully recolored, has been brought into virtual reality, allowing users to immerse themselves in the artwork recreated at a 1:1 scale. The virtual exhibition space is based on a circular layout with a 122-meter circumference. Inside, visitors can explore the full panorama, view preserved fragments up close, experience ambient sounds, and listen to a multilingual narration that tells the story of the Battle of Sibiu and the history of the painting itself.
